How Do I Earn the Gerontology Certificate?

Examinations

At least one question, accounting for at least 20% of the time allotted for comprehensive examinations (master's candidates) or preliminary examinations (doctoral candidates) must address one or more issues in gerontology. The student's advisor must provide written certification to the Center for Gerontology that this requirement has been met and that the student has successfully completed the examination. A copy of the gerontology question(s) and answer(s) (if written) must be submitted to the center.

In the event that the student's department requires standard examinations that do not include gerontology questions, the student or advisor must notify the center associate director. Center faculty will prepare appropriate questions, schedule an examination, evaluate the responses, and certify completion of the examination requirement.
